disputedunresolved Wild says that after fighting an hour and a half the attackers sent a flag of truce with a summons in Fitzhugh Lee's name, which he declined, and that contrabands later said the attackers went to Bottom's Bridge. Butler's telegram says Lee sent the flag, claiming force enough to take the place, before the attack. The reports differ on when the summons came.
Attributed messages from the defending and department commanders; the summons itself was not inspected. Butler relays a sequence that conflicts with Wild's; neither is adopted.

3081e7fc0f13…disputedpost_outcome The frozen casualty text reads 165 total; the live field reads 166 (US 26; CS 140). Butler gives Union losses of 1 killed, 20 wounded and 2 missing, and says the enemy lost 20 (the noun is garbled in OCR), whom he left on the ground in Union hands, and that 19 prisoners were taken. Wild's loss line is garbled but begins '2 killed'; he found about two dozen dead and brought in 6 wounded.
Original casualty returns were not inspected; preserve totals, categories, cutoffs and differences. No canonical reconciliation or casualty-based opening count; related actions must not be added without resolving population overlap. Butler's 1 killed and Wild's 2 killed differ; the Confederate total is not established by these reports.

unknownunresolved
No inspected return establishes matched personnel at a common opening boundary. The frozen side-specific numerical strength bounds are blank (missing_numeric_strength). No figure in this pass is adopted as a simultaneous opening force.
disputedunresolved The frozen force field reads Brigades; the frozen description gives Fitzhugh Lee's division about 3,000 men and Wild's two regiments about 1,800. The live force field is blank. Butler says Fitzhugh Lee attacked with cavalry, infantry and artillery, that the post was garrisoned by two regiments of Black troops, and that Wild commanded 1,800 men. Wild says the attackers were supposed to be cavalry with three guns, probably horse artillery; that he had no accurate count of them (his estimate is garbled in OCR: 'and probably triple'); and that prisoners stated they were detachments from three cavalry brigades.
The frozen description's 1,800 and Butler's 1,800 agree on the garrison, but the basis of the CWSAC figure is unestablished and may be the OR telegram itself, so the agreement is not treated as corroboration. Wild's estimate is unreadable. Butler, who was not present, reports infantry; Wild supposed a cavalry force. The composition is not resolved. None is adopted as a matched opening strength; live zeros are not measured absence.

- Hinks's and Swain's reports (read, not selected; Swain's garbled line appears to give the enemy's strength), any Confederate report and the returns remain deferred. Humphreys mentions Wilson's Wharf only as a May 5 landing place.
